SKOKIE, IL — Police asked the public for information about a shooting Thursday in Skokie. Shortly after 9:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a call of gunfire in the 4500 block of Oakton Street, according to police. When they arrived, they reported finding a man or boy who had been shot in his left shoulder. Police said the shooter was no longer at the scene, but a preliminary investigation indicated that there had been some kind of altercation on the west side of the building at the northeast corner of Oakton Street and Kenton Avenue. The argument "culminated" with shots fired, according to a statement from police. "The victim was sitting inside a vehicle parked in the area and was not involved in the altercation," it said. The Skokie Fire Department took the person who was shot to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, according to police. His injuries were not considered to be life-threatening. Skokie police said some kind of altercation on the west side of the building at 4558 Oakton St. led to a non-fatal shooting Thursday night. (Google Maps) Police said no one is in custody in connection with the shooting and asked anyone with information about it to call the department. Skokie Patch requested further information about the incident from Skokie Police Department spokespeople — including the nature of the altercation, any descriptions of the shooter or shooters or any vehicle and how many shell casings were found at the scene — and will update with any additional details as they are received.
