PENNSYLVANIA — Both the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers could be looking for new quarterbacks after this season, and one national sportswriter is suggesting a trade that would send Eagles starter Jalen Hurts about 300 miles west to Pittsburgh. "Look closely and the dots connect," Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports stated in an online column Thursday. Behind center for the Steelers is Ben Roethlisberger, a certain future NFL Hall of Fame member who is nearing the end of his career at age 39. Lacking mobility and seemingly unable to accurately throw deep anymore, Roethlisberger likely is in his final season. Hurts thus far has led the Eagles to an unimpressive 3-6 record and there are signs the team does not believe he is the long-term answer at quarterback. General Manager Howie Roseman was in Pittsburgh Thursday for the Pitt-North Carolina game, presumably to watch two likely first-round choices in the 2022 NFL Draft: Pitt's Kenny Pickett and North Carolina's Sam Howell. Kevin Colbert, the Steelers general manager, also was in attendance at the game, presumably scouting Roethisberger's potential successor. Benjamin suggests that the Steelers might be able to acquire Hurts for a conditional draft pick and the Eagles could use one of their three likely first-round draft choices to draft a collegiate quarterback or trade for an established one. Could it happen? Stay tuned for the NFL off-season. Be the first to know what's happening in your community and region.
