NEWTOWN, PA — The extensive renovations to the historic Newtown Theatre are nearly completed, and the grand reopening of the community icon is now just weeks away.
The theatre is slated to reopen on Dec. 1. On Thursday, workers restrung the white lights over the steps leading up to the entrance. Suddenly, the facade is as welcoming as ever.
"We can't wait to welcome you back," the theatre shared.
Some of the key renovations include a new hardwood floor, new vintage-style seats on the first floor, repaired plaster, a new coat of paint, a new fully accessible toilet room on the first floor, a wheelchair lift, a rebuilt front porch, new acoustic tiles in the auditorium, and a new sprinkler system for fire protection.
The theatre had not undergone any serious changes for some 50 years.
To celebrate the changes, an open house at the theatre will take place on Dec. 5 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
A full timeline of some of the most major aspects of the renovation was tracked by the theatre and shared online for the public to follow along with.
