25th Annual Tall Trees Turkey Trot Returns On Thanksgiving

GLENVIEW, IL — Eating turkey on Thanksgiving is an annual tradition as is running in the Tall Trees Turkey Trot in Glenview. Sign-up for the 25th edition of the race, which benefits Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook, is underway. Hundreds are expected to take part Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 25, according to organizers. The trot will start at 8:15 a.m. in Tall Trees Park in Glenview's leafy Tall Trees neighborhood, which is located just west of the corner of Lake Street and Waukegan Road. Registration ends Nov. 21, so organizers are advising those interested to sign up soon. This event is organized and carried out by neighborhood volunteers and raises critical funds for Youth Services, which provides services for children and adolescents in Chicago's northern suburbs. The event race is even sanctioned by USA Track & Field. There will be a special stretching session before the race led by Yoga6 as well as warm fires to welcome runners. Another unique feature of the race is its iconic Turkey Trot long-sleeved race T-shirt. Each year, the shirt's theme draws on some aspect of history or popular culture and incorporates a whimsical turkey. In the past the shirts have featured Elvis, the Beatles, Abe Lincoln, and Harry Potter. This year's design features the popular Chicago Bean sculpture. "People love the shirts and the race on Thanksgiving morning," said Dan Wassmann, one of the race's organizers. "We are often imitated, but never duplicated. It's a great way to get some exercise on Thanksgiving morning, and has become quite a tradition for many families. Questions can be directed via email to [email protected].
