Baby Kidnapped During Car Theft In Concord, Police Say

CONCORD, CA — An investigation was continuing into a car theft and kidnapping that took place late Thursday in Concord. The incident started shortly after 10 p.m. when officers with the Concord Police Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 5400 block of Ygnacio Valley Road. The victim told officers their 4-month-old child was in the car at the time it was stolen, Concord police Cpl. David Petty said. "Within 30 minutes, officers located the vehicle abandoned on Garaventa Drive," Petty said. "The child was in the vehicle and unharmed." The infant was evaluated by medical professionals as a precaution. Neighboring law enforcement agencies provided a K9 team and air support in an extensive search for the suspect in the car theft and kidnapping. "Although there was an extensive search, a suspect was not located," Petty said. As of Friday morning, police said, there was no description of the suspect. This investigation was ongoing; police asked anyone with additional information to call Detective Sgt. Scott Smith at 925-671-5074.
