Early Voting Dates Set For Marietta City Council Runoff

MARIETTA, GA — Voters in one part of Marietta will head to the polls again to choose a representative for the Marietta City Council, Ward 5 seat after none of the three candidates won a majority of the votes in the Nov. 2 election. Ward 5 Councilman Reggie Copeland will face challenger M. Carlyle Kent, a local real estate agent, in the runoff Nov. 30. Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration set the dates and hours for in-person early voting, which starts Monday at the elections office at 736 Whitlock Avenue: Nov. 15-20: 8 a.m.-6 p.m.Nov. 22-23: 8 a.m.-6 p.m.Nov. 24: 8 a.m.-1 p.m.Nov. 30 (Runoff Election Day): 7 a.m.-7 p.m.There is no voting on Sunday, Nov. 21, or Thursday-Monday, Nov. 25-29 for Thanksgiving. Only residents of Marietta's Ward 5 can vote in the runoff. According to the Marietta Daily Journal, there are 6,359 registered voters in Ward 5. Kent led the race Nov. 2 with 38 percent of the ballots cast, or 310 votes, while Copeland finished with 277 votes, or roughly 34 percent. Cristina Stallworth, the third candidate running for the seat, had 223 votes, or 28 percent. Since no candidate landed 50 percent plus one of the votes, the top two head to a runoff.
