Description

I’m looking for a vibraphone player not for an addition to a band, but for a crucial part of it. Hoping to find someone that I vibe : ) with and wants to collaborate on pieces as opposed to me saying “this is what you should play and for this many times, etc.” I can provide a lot of creative input and structure as a semi band leader, but would prefer to gel with someone that has their own ideas as well and wants to help with some structure and composition ideas. Ideally, you can lead on writing a tune or two as well if you want. I have a space that I just leased in Gowanus where you can bring/store your vibes should we be a fit to get rolling on something together. The instrumental music I’m aiming to make would consist of guitar (me), vibes, drums (have a nice jazz kit in the room) and tuba (that might be a challenge, but it’s what I’m hearing.) It will be louder than a Jazz band and more aggressive, but not at face melting volumes. It relies on a lot of odd time signatures, but not in a way to say “hey I’m going to confuse the hell out of you” - rather.. in a way that requires the listener to have a palette for something that might take just a little more time (but worth it) to get into. There could be moments of improvisation, but not in the traditional way of soloing, perhaps a bit more chaotic. I haven’t attempted to reach a drummer yet. I’d like to find vibes first because once we have some sketches to present, I believe it’ll be easier to attract a drummer. If you know most of these references above, I think this might make sense. If you don’t, check them out and if you think you’re into this idea, pls get in touch. I’m looking for someone that can commit to meeting at least once a week and can dedicate some headspace on their own. Ultimately, the goal would be to play around town and make a beautiful record.
