Remodeling-Focused Attorney Discussion NARI is pleased to host attorneys from the Barnes & Thornburg LLP construction practice to provide insights into current legal issues impacting construction professionals in New York: Arbitration or Litigation- Tommy Haskins will discuss New York’s unique approach regarding arbitration on a residential construction project. Topics will include the pros and cons of requiring arbitration for your projects, as well as your rights if a homeowner agrees to arbitrate but then files a lawsuit in court. Mr. Haskins will discuss best practices to use arbitration as a tool to minimize the cost and distraction of construction disputes. Managing Insurance- Ken Gorenberg will provide a basic introduction to purchasing and managing insurance policies. Based on recent developments, particularly in New York, Mr. Gorenberg will discuss how to manage certificates of insurance and policy endorsements to minimize the financial impact of a construction claim. Construction Industry Wage Theft- On September 6, New York passed a wage law forcing general contractors to be jointly liable for subcontractor wages and benefits. Anthony Sallah will discuss how the new law will affect your projects and identify steps that can be taken now to minimize your exposure once the law goes into effect. General Q&A- Gregory Gistenson will lead the panel in a moderated question-and-answer session following the presentations. *Tour of hosting facility, light bites, and networking prior!
