Sat-Dec-19th- Celebrate the Season with Paella and More This series of two 3-hour workshops in our spacious CoVid-19 safe commercial kitchen classroom offer hands-on, engaged learning in the kitchen with masterful chef Tony and Rhonda Gruska. They will share how to prepare easy, elegant meals. The tips and techniques you will practice in class can inspire you to take your culinary creations at home to the next level. Learning Objectives1. Broaden your culinary horizons and discover the delights of food: 2. Balancing the textures and flavors of ingredients, 3. Fine-tune your timing and rhythm of preparing a meal, 4. Appreciate the bigger picture of how food can be a heart-felt offering to builds community. Throughout the workshop we will explore the larger issues around food, health, and ecology. We aim to build community around mindful, joyful habits as consumers and diners. We will share how to source affordable, local, organic, seasonal food to support local farms, the healing of the environment and all our relations. At the end of each class, we will enjoy a lunch of the exquisite dishes we have created together. Instructors: Tony Gruska and Rhonda GruskaChef Tony Gruska and his spouse, Rhonda, owned and operated three organic restaurants, catered hundreds of events, and sold prepared and preserved foods at the local Farmer’s Market in the Sacramento Valley for over twenty years. They moved to the Bay Area in 2018 where Tony prepared vegetarian meals at the Nyingma Buddhist Institute and worked at Chez Panisse restaurant. In addition to offering seasonal, organic cooking classes, Gruskas are the hosts the Bauman Wellness Center Friday Market where they offer cooking demos, tastings, recipes, and produce for sale. There is a vegan option. If you have any specific food allergies or other dietary requirements, please indicate below and/or email us at [email protected] Health & Safety The Bauman Wellness Center is a fully Covid-19 compliant facility featuring a state of the art commercial teaching kitchen with enhanced ventilation. Participants will participate in Covid-19 symptom screenings before each class, wear face masks, and engage in physical distancing. Face shields, gloves, handwashing stations, and hand sanitizer will be provided at every class. LocationBauman Wellness Center, 1007 University Avenue in Berkeley. Bauman Wellness Center is conveniently located just off HWY 80. The North Berkeley Bart Station is less than a 0.9 miles away with a walking time of approximately 20 minutes. The Berkeley Amtrak Station is 0.7 miles, away with a walking time of approximately 15 minutes.
