Description
READING, MA — The Reading Police Department and Department of Public Works are scrapping all-night parking this winter after an unsuccessful pilot program last year.
Police said they ended up towing "significantly more" cars that were not moved during snow emergencies than they had in previous years.
"This tied up valuable resources and caused delays in the DPW's ability to clear the roadways creating a public safety risk," police said.
The overnight parking ban will be enforced starting Nov. 29. Warnings will be given out the first week, but citations will be issued starting Dec. 6.
The ban includes all roadways and municipal lots from 1-6 a.m.
