NEW YORK CITY — A digital revamp of New York City's iconic subway map is not only one of Time Magazine's best inventions of 2021 — it's on the famed magazine's cover.
MTA's new Live Subway Map is "relief for straphangers," the Time report states.
"Created in partnership with digital agency Work & Co, the map is a design feat, retaining the iconic, four-decade-old look while bringing it up to the minute with live data," the report states.
This is so cool! @MTA, @workandco, & @transittechlab's Live Subway Map makes it to @TIME's Best Inventions of 2021 — and on the magazine's cover around the world! https://t.co/HuWHKp83sN— Eugene Resnick (@EugeneResnick) November 10, 2021 The Time honor isn't the only accolade the new subway map garnered since it was unveiled.
The web-based map — which shows moving trains, gives automatic real-time updates and places tracks atop a geographically-correct street grid — received a Gold Lion award during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, a Webby, a Fast Company innovation prize, among others.
