Description

Los Angeles Women Travel Meetup Brunch and WHite Elephant Gift Exchange The Travel Collective HOLIDAY BRUNCH! ***this event is posted on multiple Meetup groups*** Join us for a special Holiday Brunch at the Grand Casino Bakery in Culver City. Despite its name, it is not a casino :-) It is a lovely little restaurant that offers Argentine cuisine. http://www.grandcasinobakery.com/ In the spirit of the holidays, we will host a White Elephant Gift Exchange during brunch. Join us for a delightful game - that will give you an opportunity to "re-gift" something you've received over the holidays or to share something from your home. Please don't purchase anything for this event, the idea is to give something you already have. What is the White Elephant Game? It is a “gift-swap” game. Everyone brings a wrapped gift, places it in a pile and draws a number. Whoever draws No. 1 selects a present to unwrap. No. 2 can then either choose another gift toto unwrap or “steal” the first person’s present. The subsequent participants can either pick an unwrapped gift or steal any previous player’s gift. Anyone whose gift is stolen can do the same. This makes the game quite entertaining as items are “swapped” throughout the game. According to popular legend, the term “white elephant” is related to an old practice from kings of Siam (today, Thailand). If the king was dissatisfied with one of his subjects, he would gift them a rare albino elephant. This gift was burdensome because white elephants were extremely expensive to care for and could lead to financial ruin. According to the legend, those who received these special gifts could not refuse them, and to make matters worse, they were not allowed to put the sacred animals to work. As such, they were both valuable and useless, hence the definition of “white elephant” as something that isn’t particularly useful and has a high cost of upkeep. WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING AS A GIFT? Our only rule for the gift you bring – is that you DO NOT purchase a new item to give. Some ideas to get you thinking… ** “Re-Gift” something you received as a gift but have never used. ** An item in your home that in the spirit of Marie Kondo may no longer “spark joy” for you – but that you believe might “spark joy” for someone else. ** Something that would be silly or absurd, these items can be fun and are often the most coveted – being swapped several times throughout the game. ** A homemade item; such as homemade baked goods or a picture you’ve drawn or painted. Join us, it will be a memorable day! Parking Info: https://www.culvercity.org/how-do-i/find/parking/downtown-parking One Hour of FREE parking in the Parking Structures- each additional
