Please join AIER's Bastiat Society program in Charleston for an in-person event with Glen Appelbaum. He will discuss South Africa's history and its continued impact on current outcomes. From its inception, the majority of South Africa’s residents were deprived of basic rights, including participation in the broad economy. This deprivation morphed into formalizing the suppression via a system that came to be known as Apartheid. After successfully defeating an intransigent government, the African National Congress (ANC) has had to transform from a liberation movement to a political party that governs democratically. This event is free and open to the public. Eventbrite registration required. _______________________ More about the speaker: Glen Appelbaum was born and raised in South Africa, where he resided until his early 30’s and worked at the largest stock brokerage in the country. In the late nineties, he decided that it was time for a new adventure. He bought a sailboat and left from Cape Town with his wife. They cruised through the Caribbean and the East Coast for a couple of years, after which time they settled in Charleston. Glen was given the opportunity to work as a yacht broker in 2001, and has been a broker since then.
