STAMFORD, CT — Nine people have been displaced due to a fire at an apartment building on the West Side of Stamford, according to the Stamford Fire Department; the occupants were provided housing by the Red Cross.
Around 11:41 p.m. on Wednesday, the 911 center received a report of a building on fire with someone trapped inside at 27 Finney Lane.
Units from the Stamford's West Side Station reported heavy smoke coming from a multi-family apartment building , and upon entry, heavy fire was found in the first floor of the apartment, the department said in a news release early Thursday morning.
Hose lines were used and the fire "was rapidly extinguished", fire officials said, and the building was simultaneously searched for occupants; no one was found inside.
The fire department said the blaze left heavy fire damage to the first floor apartment, along with smoke and water damage throughout the rest of the building.
The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
