Beltway Lane Closures Planned Over 2 Nights In Tysons

TYSONS, VA — Lane closures will be back on the Capital Beltway in Tysons two nights this weekend for continued bridge joint work, the Virginia Department of Transportation announced. Three of the four southbound lanes of the Beltway Outer Loop (southbound I-495) will be closed at the three bridges over Dulles Toll Road on the nights of Friday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13. Hours for the lane closures are 11 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday, and 11 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. There will also be periodic full stoppages of southbound I-495 for 20 minutes will happen between midnight and 5 a.m. overnight on Friday and Saturday. Drivers are urged to use caution in work zones. Other traffic impacts in the area are related to the Transform Outside the Beltway project. Ramps are being constructed or modified at the 66/495 interchange to provide connections to and from existing lanes and the new I-66 Express Lanes. At the 66/495 interchange, expect lane closures and ramp closures in the next few days as bridge work continues. Here are the traffic impacts to know: I-66 West at I-495: Two lanes of westbound I-66 will be closed for a concrete deck pour and bridge beam installation on Thursday, Nov. 11, and Friday, Nov. 12 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes during the overnight hours. I-66 West from Route 7 to I-495: Nightly through Friday, Nov. 12: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., one lane will be closed for paving. Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West: On Thursday, Nov. 11 from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. and Friday, Nov. 12, and Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., the ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) West, stay to the right to I-495 South, and then exit to I-66 West. Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East: On Thursday, Nov. 11 from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. and Friday, Nov. 12, and Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., the ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 East, travel about one mile, and then follow signs to I-66 East. Ramp from I-66 East to 495 Express Lanes South and Ramp from I-66 West to 495 Express Lanes: Nightly through Thursday, Nov. 11 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., the ramps will be closed. Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to an alternate route. 495 Express Lanes South approaching I-66: Nightly through Thursday, Nov. 11 from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., one lane will be closed for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.
