CHANTILLY, VA — A Chantilly woman, who runs an artisanal chocolate business, created a special chocolate bar for Veterans Day. Thereasa Black, a Navy veteran who founded Bon AppéSweet in 2019, plans to donate 5 percent of the profits from the sale of her Warrior Bar to The Wounded Warrior Project. The Warrior Bar is "fierce with a spicy kick, just like our servicewomen and men," according to Black. The pumpkin and spices give the chocolate bar a little taste of fall, she said, while thanking service members for their sacrifice. "As a veteran owned company, we know the importance of thanking those who have sacrificed so much for us all," the Bon AppéSweet Facebook page says. "Bon AppéSweet salutes you." Black works out of a commercial kitchen and sells to grocery stores, gift box companies, smoothie shops, Amazon, Kroger.com and from her website. Black came up with the idea for Bon AppéSweet while serving overseas on a 13-month tour after the birth of her daughter. She did not want to be away from her daughter for long periods, so Bon AppéSweet was founded as a celebration of Isabella's love for dessert. "Our chocolate bars are sweetened using only dates which are loaded with vitamins and antioxidants," Black writes on her website. "In the beginning, fruits were the world's only sweeteners. Bon AppéSweet is taking you back to your nutritious roots." Along with the Warrior Bar, Black sells a variety of other chocolate bars, including Deep Dark Chocolate, Better Than Milk Chocolate, Golden Chocolate, Sea Salted Almond and Better With Almonds.
