Here are the top stories today in Irving: The dramatic events in Afghanistan this past summer left many displaced. The Puls family, who have two children and live in Grand Prairie, welcomed a former U.S. Embassy worker from the country and four of his family members into their guest room in late October. Candace Sweat reports the displaced family will soon be accommodated with a home of their own in North Texas. Learn more about the Puls' experience over at NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth. A trio of crashes proved fatal during the strong storms Wednesday. Two of the accidents were single-car incidents, both killing the drivers, one of which was on South Cockrell Hill Road at Brass Way, and the other was on South Riverfront Boulevard near Cadiz Street. A third crash killed a pedestrian on westbound I-635 in Dallas. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)Nimitz High School is doing its share in prepping future engineers, according to Irving Weekly.
