First, today's weather: Partly sunny. High: 69 Low: 49. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: This week, the US House of Representatives passed the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act. Very preliminary estimates show that the formulaic components of the bill could provide the Sacramento County Department of Airports (SCDA) as much as $14 million per year for five years. "SCDA is thrilled with the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act," said Cindy Nichol, Director of Airports for Sacramento County. "As SCDA looks to adapt to the future of air travel, the financial tools provided by the infrastructure bill will be important components of our efforts to put the people at the center of every trip, every experience, every day. " (Press Release Desk) The Sacramento City Unified School District says it is struggling with a substitute teacher shortage. A partial solution could lie in pay raises for substitute teachers, according to the district's superintendent. For the pay raises to become a reality, the Sacramento City Teachers Association would need to sign the "memorandum of understanding" with the district. Superintendent Jorge Aguilar says the union has not yet signed the MOU. The president of the SCTA said he is in support of the pay raises for substitute teachers and is confused with the hold-up. (KCRA3) There have been a rash of deadly hit-and-run crashes in our region in recent weeks. A 78-year-old great-grandfather was one of the latest victims. Rogelia Ruiz Fraga was on his morning walk to the store when he was hit, not once, but twice at the Fruitridge Avenue and 24th Street intersection. He was killed. Sacramento police records show there have been 11 fatal hit-and-run collisions in their jurisdiction to date this year, and only one of those has resulted in an arrest. These hit-and-run investigations are all categorized as felony homicide investigations. They will not go away until someone is caught. (Good Day Sacramento) Jointed Cue Billiards, a popular Sacramento pool hall, is back in business after it was shut down for three years over a controversial ADA lawsuit. Katy Damani took over ownership with her husband, a long-time player at the hall, after the original business closed and the lawsuit was dropped. The new owners put in more than $70,000 in ADA renovations. "It was all worth it to be able to do this, to see people in here enjoying a place that they have loved for the last 50 years or more," said Damani. (CBS Sacramento) The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office has been working on more than 100 search warrants over the past six months, resulting in 26 arrests and the seizure of 23 firearms at 19 locations in Sacramento. The operation came to a close on Wednesday. The DA, Anne Marie Schubert, said action needed to be taken with the number of guns on the street of Sacramento. Sacramento police took the lead with agencies from the state and federal levels as they targeted gangs and gun-related violence. "We have to be aggressive on this. The fact of the matter is that gun violence is killing our community," Schubert said. (FOX40) Today's Sacramento Daily is brought to you by our friends at Verizon. Unfortunately, the Census bears that out. Walnut Grove, once a bustling community, is down 6% from the last Census and other towns are seeing their share of population reduction, as well.
