ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a dog bite, a gift card scam, retail theft, a domestic disturbance, stolen bikes and a bullet hole. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Dog bites carrier A mail carrier told police that a dog lunged at him and bit him on his right forearm, leaving a deep cut. The dog was with its owner in the driveway. The incident happened shortly before noon Tuesday in the 900 block of Fern Avenue. An animal bite report was sent to DuPage County Animal Control. Gift card scam A resident in the 300 block of Yorkfield Avenue said she received a call Tuesday from a person who claimed to be a Drug Enforcement Administration agent. The person said two DEA agents would arrest her unless she bought Nordstrom gift cards. The woman complied with the request and provided the suspects with the access numbers to the gift cards. Retail theft Two teenagers walked into The Little Shopper, 697 N. York St., about 6 p.m. Monday and asked to buy pre-rolled cigarettes. When the clerk asked the teens for identification, they grabbed the display of cigarillos and ran out of the store. Officers could not find the suspects. One boy was described as black, in his early teens, tall, thin and wearing a dark blue sweatshirt. The other boy was described as black, in his early teens, shorter, heavy-set and wearing a white T-shirt. Hospital domestic Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 8:30 p.m. Monday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. A man said a woman pushed him multiple times in the chest. The woman said the man bumped her with his shoulder. Because of conflicting statements and no signs of injuries, no arrests were made. Bikes stolen A black Schwinn GTX3 bicycle was stolen from a rack between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday at the train depot, 128 W. First St. The bike was locked at the rack at First Street and Addison Avenue. The same day, a black Trek FX-1 bicycle was stolen from the rack at Park Avenue, to the west of the train depot. It, too, was locked. Bike found A Raleigh MXR bicycle was found Wednesday at Pioneer Park in the 500 block of South Mitchell Avenue. The bike was placed into evidence for safekeeping. Fugitive driver An officer pulled over a gray Chevrolet Malibu about 2 a.m. Wednesday for running a red light. When the officer approached the car, the suspect screeched the tires and sped away. The driver was described as a black woman, 20 to 30 years old, heavyset, having bright blond or white hair (possibly a wig) and wearing tan pants. Bullet hole discovered A resident on Astoria Court found a bullet hole in the front window of his house Wednesday. The resident did not have any information on how or why this happened. The case is pending an investigation. Driving violations Tajai M. Allen, 27, of Bellwood, was cited about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at York and Diversey on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured vehicle and speeding. She was released on bond. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
