Description

I am a former zookeeper with years of professional experience caring for all kinds of animals as well as custom building enclosures and furniture for many pets in my spare time. I am knowledgeable and passionate about keeping animals as happy and healthy as possible. I also care deeply about the environment and try to prevent waste however I can. I build beautiful custom enclosures for birds, reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals out of discarded furniture and other salvaged materials. Enclosures are typically upwards of 90% recycled. Sometimes I will need to purchase some small component, but I can often find even the hardware I need. So you are paying for my labor and expertise rather than the raw materials, which makes my enclosures far cheaper than any cage of comparable size and often inferior quality! Plus you get the added benefit of knowing you are saving usable pieces from a landfill! Unfortunately, most of the photo examples I have are in-progress shots and sketches, but hopefully they can give you a rough idea of what is possible. For many pets, there just isn't much in the way of suitable housing available. Traditional cages can be pretty austere and aren't known for their looks. My goal is always to build something that both you and your pet can enjoy! I balance both the practical and aesthetic concerns of cohabitation with particular attention to ease of care and maintenance. An enclosure should always work for both you and your pet. After all, it's their home, but you have to live alongside and maintain it every day. The price of an enclosure is based primarily on how many hours it takes me to complete, so most will start around $100 but will increase in price the more features and customization are included. I will do anything from a basic frame with doors, to a fully furnished home. Platforms, perches, ramps, hides, tunnels, lighting, and many other features can be added and customized to your satisfaction. Pet furniture starts around $30 and increases in price with size and complexity. I'm equally happy to come up with designs myself as fully collaborate with you on your vision. I can also deliver (or arrange for delivery depending on size) and install the final product. For reference, the first photo is of a button quail aviary made from a crib with a second level, lighting, safety net, and planters was $250. The second photo is a three level hamster enclosure made from a display cabinet with a burrow box, climbing wall, hides, ramps, tunnel, and water bottle holder for $200. The third is a rabbit hutch with two levels and covered litter box built from a side table for $150. The fourth photo is an in-window cat porch made from a dog crate for $100. Phone and email consultations are free! I love talking to people about their animals! In person consultations are $15 an hour including travel time. I'm happy to provide rough estimates and discuss any budgetary concerns.
