Take a trip south of Atlanta and learn about the history, preservation, and incredible residents of Historic Linwood Cemetery Linwood Cemetery, the first cemetery in Columbus, Georgia, was established in 1828. It is more than just a memorial garden, more than just iron markers and marble headstones. Linwood Cemetery is a repository of Columbus history. To walk among its plots is to plot the financial, social, and spiritual growth of our city by the falls. Some of the residents highlighted on this tour will be Philip Shutze (Architect - Swan House, Rich's Department Store, and more), John Pemberton (Coca Cola), Henry L. Benning (Ft. Benning), Noble Leslie DeVotie (Founder of the SAE fraternity), Clara Meigs (wife of the first president of UGA), Clara Forsyth (wife of Gov. John Forsythe who is buried in Atlanta), Gov. James Johnson (who is buried in an unmarked grave), Tom Huston (Tom's peanuts), Jack Hughston (the sports medicine guru), and more. Share a day with us and we will share the past with you! The details Parking will be at the Lummus Chapel and restrooms are available there as well.This walking tour will last approximately two hours.Tickets are required; no walkups allowed.Your health and safety is important to us.
