SALEM, MA — The Northeast Animal Shelter of Salem will be waiving adoption fees for rabbits and guinea pigs this weekend as it looks to adopt out many of the more than 100 small animals needing forever homes across its network. The third "adoptathon" follows those held in July and September where 166 guinea pigs, rabbits, birds and other little fellas were placed in new homes at no fee. This weekend's event runs on Saturday and Sunday in Salem and the MSPCA's adoption centers in Boston, Methuen and Centerville on Cape Cod. While shelter dogs and cats remain in demand in New England, Massachusetts shelters are overwhelmed with small pets. Those adopting this weekend can save $85 per rabbit and $30 per guinea pig. "We still have more than 100 guinea pigs and rabbits available for adoption, and these animals comprise — by far — the largest percentage of adoptable pets across all of our locations," said Mike Keiley, Director of Adoption Centers and Programs at the MSPCA-Angell. "We hope that every available adopter takes advantage of this special adoptathon to welcome a new pet into their family." A special registration page has been set up for those planning to take advantage of the free adoptions at the Northeast Animal Shelter this weekend. Did you find this article useful?
