STRATFORD, CT — A Monday recount flipped two land use seats from Democrats to Republicans, the Connecticut Post reports.
Following a review of more than 1900 ballots for three races, Republican Kerry Whitham edged out Democratic opponent Anthony Afriyie for the Zoning Board of Appeals District 3 seat by just seven votes (1099-1092), according to the Post. After the election, Afriyie was ahead by a single vote.
Republican Alex Voccola beat Democrat Barbara Heimlich by eight votes (1112-1106) for the Planning Commission District 3 seat. Following the election, Heimlich was ahead by two votes, the Post reports.
Democrat Kaitlyn Shake maintained her 8-vote win over Republican Ronald Tichy, 624-616, the Post reports.
Republicans hold a majority of Town Council seats in Stratford, including a re-election victory for Mayor Laura Hoydick over Democratic challenger Immacula Cann, Patch reported.
