ROUND ROCK, TX — A Round Rock ISD student was mugged Monday morning while walking to student, according to the school district. A Westwood High School student had their wallet stolen by an "unknown individual," the district said Tuesday. Austin Police said the mugging wasn't reported until after 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Officers did respond to the service call, which is being considered a "robbery by threat." Because of the late report, Westwood High didn't confirm the robbery until Tuesday morning. The letter states the student was able to safely escape the situation, and RRISD's police department has increased patrols in the neighborhoods close to campus and in areas where students walk. "As a reminder, when students make their way to and from school, it is always a good idea to focus on their surroundings and personal safety," Principal Acosta wrote in the letter. This isn't the first case where a crime was committed towards a RRISD student. Last week, police reported a student was sexually assaulted while walking to Live Oak Elementary School. Round Rock ISD Police Chief Jeffrey Yarbrough told CBS Austin it will be ramping up patrols, which means three or four officers will be patrolling at any given time between the two schools. "The assistant chief, and me the chief of police we're out patrolling our campuses as well because at the end of the day our primary goal is to make sure students don't have to worry about these things," said Yarbrough. "When you consider the issue that we recently had one of our elementary schools, and now a situation that occurred around one of our high schools, we look at both of those situations as extremely concerning."
