New Assisted Living Facility Planned For Jacobsville

By Steve Burger, WNIN November 10, 2021 The Evansville City Council approved a tax abatement for a planned $14 million assisted living facility that will replace a local landmark. With the tax abatement, Parkside AAL, LP will demolish the Crawford Door building on North Heidelbach to build the facility which will have seventy two studio units and forty eight one bedroom units for low income seniors. The tax abatement would last over eight years, gradually decreasing until Parkside will be paying full property taxes for the location starting in year nine. According to the plan presented by the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership, the assisted living facility will eventually employ seventy people, making an average of about $24 dollars an hour. Officials with the group planning the facility say they looked at ways to use all or part of the Crawford Door building, but it was not economically feasible, so they will be tearing down the landmark which is visible over the right field wall at Bosse Field. Funding -- including $650,000 from the city -- has been secured for a skatepark along Evansville's riverfront. The state has approved CenterPoint Energy's plans for solar power facilities in Posey and Warrick counties. A ribbon has been cut, welcoming penguins to Mesker Park Zoo.
