Deputy Honored For Saving West Chester Man Who Had Heart Attack

WEST CHESTER, PA — In the United States, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds, according to the the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to health experts, prompt, appropriate medical attention is critical to surviving a cardiac event, and one West Chester man knows that all too well. Fortunately, an off-duty deputy was nearby to quickly come to his aid. On May 20, Deputy Anthony Schuibbeo was working out at the gym on his day off when he saw a resident collapse while exercising. He was having a heart attack, the Chester County Sheriff's Office said. Schuibbeo quickly jumped into action and used an AED to revive the man. He ultimately survived and has since made a full recovery, West Chester police confirmed. On Monday, Nov. 8, the West Chester Borough Police Department recognized Schuibbeo for saving that man's life. "Kudos and honors to Deputy Schuibbeo!" the Chester County Sheriff's Office posted on its official Facebook page. "Deputies and law enforcement officers are never truly off duty."
