CONCORD, NH — Laura Landerman-Garber, the founder of the Holiday Cards for our Military Challenge, continues to collect cards for active-duty military personnel, and recently, the staff of U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Air Force Lt. Col J.J. Johnson lent a hand, filling out cards. "The card challenge is something that I look forward to every year," Hassan said. "I am grateful for Laura's continued leadership and commitment to making sure that our service members are not forgotten during the holiday season and I am delighted that Lt. Col. JJ Johnson was able to join us for this year's card writing session." Landerman-Garber thanked the staffers as well as everyone around the Granite State for getting involved with the challenge. She said the program had now grown beyond New Hampshire — more than half a million cards were being collected from all 50 states. Dr. Landerman-Garber, U.S. Sen. The tournament, the Workplace Benefit Solutions (WBS) HUB International Harvest Golf Classic, held at the Manchester Country Club, has raised nearly $900,000 to fight hunger in 12 years. One hundred and sixteen golfers participated. "We are extremely grateful for the continued support from WBS-HUB through the annual Harvest Golf Classic, which makes an incredible difference for us as we continue to work tirelessly to combat hunger in New Hampshire," said Eileen Liponis, the executive director of the food bank. "The money raised during this year's tournament allows us to deliver more than 200,000 meals to the one in nine New Hampshire residents who are food insecure, meaning they do not know where their next meal is coming from." The New Hampshire Food Bank is a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire. It is the state's only food bank. In 2020, the food bank distributed more than 17 million pounds of non-perishable food items, fresh produce, and meats to more than 400 non-profit food agencies. On the site, anyone who believes they have not been fairly treated can submit a public education intake questionnaire which will be reviewed by the commission to determine if there were grounds for a formal complaint. The site, according to officials, hopes to assist anyone who believes they are being discriminated against or aggrieved to have a neutral, third-party review the issues.
