Landmark Pittsburgh Grocery Could Close After Nearly 90 Years

PITTSBURGH, PA — Donatelli's Italian Food Center, a staple on Bloomfield's Liberty Avenue for nearly 90 years, will shutter its doors soon unless a new owner is found. Owner Russell Donatelli made the announcement on the grocery's Facebook page. "After the passing of my father, Paul Sr. in 2015 and the untimely death of my brother, Paul Jr. the following year, it's been up to me to keep the Donatelli name going in operating the business." Donatelli stated. "Unfortunately, there is no fourth generation in our family to continue the business, so I am looking for that next person to continue on the Italian recipes and traditions passed on to me and my family before the end of this year." Without that person or group, Donatelli's will close early next year, he said. Donatelli's offers many homemade Italian food products such as Italian sausage, pasta dishes, raviolis, sauces, lasagna, biscotti, pizelles and more. "We want to thank everyone who has supported or worked for the business over the course of their lifetime," Donatelli said.
