Students from area towns like Lemont, Bolingbrook and Romeoville are celebrating accomplishments throughout the semester, including making Dean's List, enrolling in college, and earning scholarships. The following information was provided by Merit Pages News: Katrina Yep Named to Dean's List at Biola University Katrina Yep was named to Biola University's Dean's List for academic excellence. Yep, a Journalism and Integrated Media major from Bolingbrook, was one of approximately 1,800 students who were named to the dean's list in spring 2021. Biola students are placed on the dean's list to honor those with a GPA of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credits and whose cumulative GPA is at least 3.2. Area students enroll at the University of Utah William Sage Ramos of Romeoville and Joshua Rybialek of Bolingbrook among the 5,361 students who make up the University of Utah's Class of 2025 - the largest freshmen class in school history. Enrollment of first-time freshmen increased 19.6 percent from fall 2020 and is the first class of over 5,000 students at the U. Last fall, first-time freshmen increased 5.5 percent. "We are excited to welcome our largest class to Imagine U," said Dan Reed, senior vice president of Academic Affairs. "The enthusiasm of our faculty, staff and students for the fall educational experience is extraordinary." The U also enrolled historically high numbers of domestic students of color, international students and both in-state and out-of-state students. Ashleigh Curtiss earns President's Scholarship at Baldwin Wallace University Ashleigh Curtiss of Bolingbrook was among over 600 first-year students welcomed to the Baldwin Wallace University campus this fall who earned more than $12 million in merit scholarships. Curtiss, a graduate of Bolingbrook High School majoring in pre-allied health/pre-physical therapy, earned a $21,000 President's Scholarship based on outstanding academic achievements in high school. BW's merit scholarships are awarded to full-time students and are renewable up to four years with good academic and social standing. Lemont's Nash Earns Spot on 2021-22 UW-Whitewater Wrestling Team Drew Nash, of Lemont, will compete for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team during the 2021-22 season for his second year. Nash, a sophomore at UW-Whitewater, is majoring in general business. The Warhawks are coming off a pandemic-shortened 2020-21 campaign, when they wrestled four duals against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents, posting a 3-1 record. In 2019-20, the team's most recent full regular season, UW-W finished second in the WIAC and third at the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional, and qualified four wrestlers for the NCAA Championship, which was canceled due to the pandemic.
