EDINA, MN — Edina High School students and staff are set to pay tribute to local veterans Thursday morning during a Veterans Day assembly, according to a report by the Sun Current.
The ceremony is set to start at 10:05 a.m. Thursday, with veterans invited to join and be recognized for their service, the report states. Retired Army Col. Sheri DeMartelaere will be the event's guest speaker, the report states.
Eight southwest metro Rotary clubs will gather at the Edina Country Club on Thursday to honor all who have served in the U.S. armed forces.

Doors open for the annual Area 3 Rotary event at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Veterans Day program to start 30 minutes later, according to an event posting.
KSTP's Tom Hauser is set to emcee the event, with Minnesota National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Joshua Guyse as the featured speaker, the posting states.
Veterans Day, commemorated each year on Nov. 11, was first celebrated in 1919 to honor those who fought in World War I. It was initially called Armistice Day and was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
The holiday's origin is tied to the armistice, a temporary end of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany signed in France on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
