AGOURA HILLS, CA — It's National Adopt a Senior Pet Month, and Agoura Animal Care Center is making it easier than ever to take home a new cat or dog. For the entire month of November, you can find your new cat or dog from Agoura Animal Care Center for just $5. This price includes the cost of adoption, a microchip, spaying/neutering and necessary vaccinations for all cats and dogs over the age of five, according to Los Angeles County Animal Care. About 6.3 million animals enter shelters each year, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, around 920,000 of which will be euthanized per year because they can't find a home. Older dogs are 35 percent less likely to be adopted than younger dogs and puppies, according to ASPCA. Older cats are also less likely to be adopted in the U.S. But adopting older pets also comes with its perks. Older animals are generally more trained, can settle into a home easier and likely already have a personality for you to get to know, ASPCA said in a blog post.
