The Somm School (www.thesommschool.com)is pleased to offer WSET Level 2 Award in Wines program in Scottsdale. WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is a certification program adaptable for beginner to intermediate level individuals interested in exploring wines at an in-depth level. With this program, you will gain a core understanding of wine through labeling terminology and by exploring the major grape varieties, raw materials, and regions of production. The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines program encompasses a boastful variety of wines from various regions of the world to taste using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting® (SAT) throughout the program. The Level 2 program breakdown is as follows; Evening 1 – March 15, 6:00-10:00pm – Review of foundational wine and food pairing material is covered along with an in-depth guided lesson on deductive wine tasting. Factors influencing the production of white, rose and sweet wines are covered during this session as well as the main white grape varieties of the world. Evening 2 – March 17, 6:00-10:00pm - Tasting panels in conjunction with the course sessions include regional selections of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Gewurztraminer, Viognier, Albarino, Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Semillon, Malbec and Pinot Noir. Evening 3 – March 22, 6:00-10:00pm – Major red grape varietals are covered during this session. Tasting panels include extensive regional selections of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Gamay, Grenache, Tempranillo, Carmenere. Evening 4 – March 24, 6:00-10:00pm - This evening session includes Italian white grape varieties along with Italian red varietals. Sparkling and fortified wine subjects are also covered. Tasting panels include; Garganega, Fiano, Corvina, Barbera, Sangiovese and Montepulciano, Cava, Asti, Prosecco, Champagne, Sherry and Port. This session concludes with an extensive review for examination preparation. EXAMINATION – March 29, 6:00 - 7:00pm – Students are administered a 50 multiple choice examination. Successful candidates receive a certificate and lapel pin. Should a student miss or fail the examination, they may resit at a later date for a fee of $100. WSET was established in 1969 for the UK wine trade, the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) has since grown to become the global industry leader in wine and spirits education. DO I NEED A DESIGNATED DRIVER AFTER CLASS? Wine provided is educational material and not for consumption. Though curriculums involve tasting alcoholic beverages, spitting is a must. WHAT IS YOUR ADMISSIONS POLICY? You must be a minimum of 21 years of age in order to participate in the educational tastings portion of programs and workshops. Individuals who enroll in programs or workshops at The Somm School currently register by means of third party processor Eventbrite. At no point does The Somm School collect, store or process credit card information. REFUND POLICY WSET Level 2 Programs – Full refund minus third party processing fees up to 14 days prior to class program date. The cost of class textbook and workbook will also be deducted from the refund if delivered to the student prior to the cancellation period.
