COTTONDALE, AL — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6022 is asking for donations after one of its employees lost her home to a fire in Elrod on Tuesday. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alerts Post Commander Donnie Nelson told Patch that no one was injured in the fire, but the home was a total loss with few personal belongings remaining for one of the VFW's bartenders and her three children. The children are two girls, ages 13 and seven, along with a three-year-old boy. Nelson then said to place after hours donations in plastic bags around the Post's Flag deposit box. He also mentioned the possibility of a future benefit drive to help the family out, which the VFW has none numerous times just in the last year for those impacted by sudden tragedy in the community.
