Learn how to navigate with or without a map and compass.
This is NOT Orienteering!
This class is part of the WSB (Wilderness Survival Basics) class. Sign up for the full day and save $15, or sign up for both days and save $30. The Fall and Winter WSB is a 2 day class that includes wild edible plants, combat first aid, shelter construction, fire building in wet conditions, water purification and land navigation.
Whether you are familiar with the basics of using a map and compass or not, this beginner and intermediate class will set you up for success. Gain a refresher or introduction on how to use a compass, and read a map. After this phase, we will teach you the survival concepts that will allow you to navigate with or without a compass. Learning how to prepare for a hike, or a journey in the woods starts with preparation. We will teach you what to, and how to highlight certain terrain features on your map to prepare you for any trip, whether it be a hike, a hunting trip, camping trip, etc. This course will aid you in preparing so you do not get lost, so that you will not have to lean on other survival skills like water purification, first aid, shelter building, etc. If you don't get lost, you will seldom find yourself in a survival situation. This class will be lead by both PAP instructors, Will White and David Grasty, both Veterans of the US Military.
