Description

Help us prepare seasonal fruits and vegetables to create family-friendly dishes that we will enjoy together! Join us for a family cooking class celebrating the harvest! Together we will prepare a feast of dishes using seasonal ingredients. On our menu: SoupSaladBread from scratch!Something sweet! Our approach to cooking together will be largely improvisational, guided by the Nourishing Literacy team, practicing creativity and flexibility in the kitchen. Printed recipes that we use as inspiration will be provided for guests. Please let us know of allergies and food sensitivities when registering or by emailing [email protected]. In ensuring a physically distanced and safe event, we have limited tickets available. Each ticket is for a pair of family members (one child + one caregiver). One additional family member can be added for an additional $5 fee. We thank you for understanding that due to space limitations, tickets canceled within one week of the program are not eligible for a refund. Safety is our top priority. According to current guidance from the city of Philadelphia, it is required that all in-person attendees, regardless of vaccination status, mask for this indoor event. Please take extra precautions if unvaccinated. For more information about our Covid safety precautions and/or any other questions please email [email protected]. We look forward to cooking with you! _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Nourishing Literacy provides food, literacy, wellness, and life skills programming to children, youth, and intergenerational groups, as a part of the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Culinary Literacy Center. Nourishing Literacy is made possible in part by a generous grant from the Edna G. Kynett Memorial Foundation. All proceeds from ticket sales go towards supporting the Culinary Literacy's Center programs for youth, neighborhood engagement, and English language learning. Here’s ours: The Free Library is advancing literacy in Philadelphia in a unique and innovative way—with a fork and a spoon. Cooking and eating are educational acts and provide opportunities to learn math, science, languages, history and so much more. Using cooking as the vehicle for learning, the Culinary Literacy Center advances literacy through food and cooking around a communal table. Opened in 2014, the Culinary Literacy Center is the first space of its kind in a public library and serves as a model for libraries worldwide. The Culinary Literacy Center is based in our kitchen classroom at Parkway Central, but we offer programming at nearly all of our neighborhood libraries. Culinary Literacy Center programs teach healthy cooking, build community, and promote civic dialogue. Pull up a seat at our table and see what’s cooking at the Free Library of Philadelphia!
