What is Shop with a cop? When you hear the sounds of sirens or see red flashing lights, the last thing you imagine is a six-year-old sitting in the passenger side of a police vehicle on their way to buy toys for themselves along with their brothers and sisters, with the help of police officers.This has become a positive relationship between youth in the community and local law enforcement. “Shop with a Cop” allows local youth the opportunity to be escorted by police officers while shopping for Christmas. This experience can show children that they do not have to be afraid of law enforcement, and it gives officers some quality time to spend with children in their community.The purpose of the “Shop with a Cop” is to create a memorable experience and foster positive relationships between youth from under-resourced communities and FWPD officers.The children’s families will have lunch provided, wrapping paper, and a Walmart gift card (with the help of your donations) to shop at Walmart with police officers. Police officers will escort the children to a local Walmart to shop for themselves.
