We invite you to join Milena's March to walk or run 5k in support of childhood cancer and Leukemia awareness. WHO IS MILENA? Hello everyone! I'm Milena. I'm 7 years old and I'll tell you quickly about the latest happenings. In August 2021, during my routine doctor’s exam, I discovered that there was something strange with my red blood cells. My parents quickly took me to the hospital and after several tests we received my diagnosis: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. My life and the lives of my family and friends changed in an instant. It forced us to learn more about health, medicine, hope, friendship, affection, faith and determination. I was surprised to discover that many children like me are also fighting every day, against pediatric cancer. And then I thought, What can I do, together with all the people who are helping me, to help these other children? How about a cancer awareness march? THE GOAL According to the National Cancer Institute, it is estimated that 15,590 children and adolescents aged 0 to 19 years will be diagnosed with cancer in 2022 in the USA. In Brazil, there are an estimated 8,460 cases. To help all children go through treatment, there are many organizations that offer different forms of support, be it information, research, education, treatment, integration, emotional support, etc. The purpose of our walk is to raise funds for some of these organizations so that they will be able to continue working with children and their families during the holiday festivities of 2021 and throughout 2022. And for that, we need the help of our community. THE EVENT MILENA’S MARCH - 5K RUN AND WALK will be held on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at 9:00 am, at the beautiful Tree Tops Park (3900 SW 100th Ave, Davie, FL 33328) in Broward County. The entire community is welcome to participate. There’s no age limit! In addition to the course that will be organized by Coach Josh, Milena’s school PE teacher, we will also have a reserved pavilion, restrooms, coolers, and more! The suggested contribution for individual participants is US$30. Each participant will receive Milena’s March T-Shirt, snacks, and lunch that will be provided after the event.
