Handcrafted, Artisan Spirits Tasting Journeyman DistilleryHandcrafted, Artisan SpiritsThursday, November 18, 6 pm at Wine Republic free wine club members | $20 non members Presented by Bradley Burton Journeyman offers an extensive portfolio of handcrafted artisan spirits that have a true sense of place or ‘terroir.’ We are grain to bottle and utilize all locally sourced Midwest organic grains and use unfiltered/untreated water from an underground aquifer, in our tiny, one stoplight town of Three Oaks, Michigan. Our whiskey is certified organic, kosher and gluten-free and we distill in a former buggy whip and corset factory founded by EK Warren in 1883. We honor the makers that came before us with grit, tenacity and ingenuity. Experimentation, variety and quality are what motivate us and our reward is more than accolades. Together we will embark on history in the making. Brad Burton began his culinary career at the illustrious Vie restaurant run by chef Paul Virant, attending to expedition and amuse bouche. From there, he went on to train as a Sommelier and cheese monger under Daniel Skro at Marche Wine and Cheese Shop. Beginning his career with Journeyman as a retail tasting ambassador, Brad took a brief interlude in 2020 with Oswego brewing company as their head of sales and marketing. Returning to his beloved distilling home in March of 2021, Brad currently runs the sales for Journeyman’s Midwest market. Bilberry Black Hearts Gin Our Bilberry Black Hearts Gin is aptly named after the famed Bilberry, cousin to the huckleberry and blueberry. The Bilberry is dark in color and was given the nickname “Black Heart” in 19th century England. Double-distillation from 100% organic Michigan wheat + 9 botanicals (Juniper, Bilberry, Lemon, Bitter Orange, Cinnamon, Coriander, Anise, Angelica, Orris). Fruity, citrus, berry custard tart, hints of pepper and spice. Featherbone Bourbon Whiskey The Featherbone was a revolutionary product created and manufactured in Three Oaks by E.K. Warren, a staunch prohibitionist. Today, we create a quite a different kind of Featherbone at Journeyman and find it ironic to be operating a grain-to-bottle distillery in this once “dry” community. Single-distillation from 70% organic corn / 25% organic wheat / 5% organic rye. Bold and assertive, youthful, earthy flavors, nutty notes, spirituous, cereal notes, peanut butter, sweet, caramel, vegetal qualities – warming on the palate. Journeyman Distillery Not A King Rye Whiskey Not a King Rye is a tribute to George Washington, who was not only our first president, but also one of America’s first distillers. After his victory over the British, he was celebrated by the masses as the first King of America. Washington famously stated that he was “Not a King”. Single-distillation from 60% organic rye / 35% organic corn / 5% organic barley. This is a limited release whiskey made available on President’s Day each year. Hints of sweet honey, fruity accent with a creamy buttery body, caramel, banana, burnt sugars. Journeyman Distillery Silver Cross Whiskey Silver Cross Four Grain Whiskey is just that; a whiskey comprised of four types of grain in equal parts. This whiskey is a perfect example of artisanal distillation at its best as you can taste each grains’ presence in the whiskey itself. Single-distillation from 25% each of organic rye / organic corn / organic wheat / organic barley. Complex, cola, cocoa, chocolate, spice, fruit, long finish, hints of wood and smoke, malty, biscuits. Journeyman Distillery O.C.G. (Old Country Goodness Apple) Cider Liqueur O.C.G. Apple Cider Liqueur is a secret family recipe that has become known as “Old Country Goodness”. It is made using only the best organic Michigan apple cider, apple juice and spices that are then fortified with our signature un-aged rye whiskey. Best served hot, cold, straight, mixed as a traditional liqueur with other spirits in cocktails or used for cooking. Apple pie and honey on the nose, sweetness transitions into balance on the palate with fall spices, cinnamon and a touch of alcohol to remind you that it’s in there. The first & only wine shop in Minnesota featuring sustainable, organic & biodynamic wines.
