Wisconsin Surpasses 800,000 COVID-19 Cases

WISCONSIN — Wisconsin surpassed 800,000 total COVID-19 cases in early November, data from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services showed. Wisconsin had 802,230 total COVID-19 cases as of Thursday, health services data said. The total number of infections reached 809,840 on Sunday. The seven-day average for cases Sunday was 2,193 cases. There were more than 100,000 new coronavirus infections among Wisconsin residents between September and November, health services data said. So far, 8,627 people had died of COVID-19 in Wisconsin as of Sunday. Some 7,895 had died of COVID-19 as of the end of September. "We are seeing an uptick in cases, positivity and hospitalizations in" Milwaukee County, the county's chief health policy advisor, Dr. Ben Weston, said. "A reminder that the future of [COVID-19] is hard to predict." Not enough people in the county have been vaccinated to see a consistent downtrend of cases, Weston added. Federal officials authorized COVID-19 vaccines for children aged 5 to 11 on Wednesday. The vaccines are safe and effective for children, Weston said.
