HARLEM, NY — A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with last month's shooting on a Harlem street corner, in which a boy and a bus driver narrowly avoided serious injury. The shooting happened around 10 a.m. on Oct. 14, as the 14-year-old boy boarded an M1 bus on the corner of West 139th Street and Lenox Avenue. As he stepped on board, an unknown gunman fired shots from the street, grazing the boy on the left side of his head, police said. One gunshot struck the metal bar on the protective shield that covers the bus driver, while another round hit the bus's front windshield. The bus driver, a 39-year-old man, suffered only a minor injury to his left hand. In the days following the shooting, police shared surveillance footage showing the alleged assailant and asked for help tracking him down. A suspect was finally arrested Monday afternoon and charged with attempted murder, assault and weapon possession, according to police, who did not release the teen's name. The 14-year-old boy was believed to be the intended target, police said last month. Both he and the bus driver were hospitalized and expected to recover. "Out of the grace of God, he did not suffer any physical injuries," said Craig Cipriano, interim president of New York City Transit, about the bus driver.
