BOSTON, MA — A Boston school will switch to fully remote learning for 10 days due to a recent increase in COVID-19 cases across multiple grade levels and classrooms, officials said on Tuesday. Curley K-8 School in Jamaica Plain will be closed for in-person learning from Wednesday to Monday, Nov. 22, officials said. The rise in cases occurred over the last week and prompted the Boston Public Health Commission to recommend the school close. Officials did not specify the number of cases in their letter to parents. "This is an active effort to immediately stop the spread and provide time to add staffing capacity to fully implement the test and stay and contact tracing programs," principal Katie Grassa said on the school's website. Each student will be sent home with their Chromebook today, and parents who need access to a device can contact the school, Grassa said. Boston Public Schools is finalizing their plans for students to learn and access food during the closure, and more information will be provided on Wednesday, Grassa said. The school will host a community meeting tonight at 5:30, accessible via Zoom. Health officials are advising anyone who has been on Curley's campus to self-isolate and avoid groups or gatherings for at least five days and until they receive a negative COVID-19 test, regardless of their vaccination status. Anyone with symptoms should stay home and seek guidance from medical professionals, Grassa said.
