MILFORD/ORANGE, CT — It may have taken a few extra days, but a winner has been decided in the Judge of Probate race between Ben Gettinger, a Democrat, and Win Smith, a Republican. On election day the race was too close to call as Smith held a slim lead and then Gettinger surged ahead by about 50 votes once absentee ballots were counted. A recount this weekend confirmed that Gettinger won and will be the next judge of probate for the Milford/Orange district. On social media, Gettinger wrote, "Thanks to the hard work and effort of the Milford and Orange election teams, the recount is complete and the election results were confirmed. "I look forward to serving as the next Milford-Orange Judge of Probate and I'm eager to begin working on behalf of the residents in Milford and Orange. "I'd like to congratulate Win Smith for his hard work and well run campaign. He earned my respect and friendship. "Thank you all for your unwavering support and to the election personnel who spent their weekend safeguarding our electoral process."
