Press release from the City of San Antonio: October 28, 2021 CONTACT: Andrew Solano [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (October 28, 2021) — City Council met in a special session to discuss the proposed 2022 Bond Package. Five councilmembers, including District 7, voted twice to move more funds to necessary infrastructure — streets, sidewalks, and drainage. Councilwoman Sandoval released the following statements: "As a supporter and patron of the creekway system, I support continuing our current level of investment in the greenway trail system — $80 million over five years. It's important to remember that Bexar County is investing $83.7 million in the trails over the next ten years and that our city hopes to receive a $25 million federal grant to support the trails as well. The trails are going to enjoy abundant funding. District 7 residents can't afford to rush completion of the trails while homes continue to flood and streets continue to lack sidewalks. "I declined to support the current bond proposal today because it does not do enough to prevent homes from flooding even though we have the resources. Instead, the City proposes to accelerate the creekway trail system." "While on council, the City has made strides to ensure that our street maintenance program is equitable — that no matter where you live, you have safe, smooth streets to drive on. Yet we have not paid the same attention to drainage. As a council, we have never set a timeline or a target to prevent x number of homes from flooding.'
