HOBOKEN, NJ — A day after Hoboken health officials began administering pediatric coronavirus vaccines to children between the ages of 5-11, more doses of the vaccine is expected Wednesday, which opens the door for more shots to go into youngster's arms. On Tuesday, the Hoboken Health Department and Medicine Man Pharmacy and Compounding announced they will hold another pediatric vaccine clinic from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday at 605 Jackson St. Appointments are required and can be made by clicking here. On Monday, 231 children between the ages of 5 and 11 received the first dose of the pediatric Pfizer vaccine, a city spokeswoman told Patch on Tuesday. Another 250 kids have appointments to get COVID-19 shots on Tuesday before another series of vaccination appointments will take place later in the week. As the city awaits more doses of the Pfizer vaccine to arrive on Wednesday, tentative plans are being made to offer clinics on Thursday and Saturday, the city announced on Tuesday. The Thursday clinic is scheduled to be held at the Jackson Street location from 2-8 p.m. and two locations in Hoboken will offer the vaccine on Saturday. Clinics will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Elysian Charter School at 1460 Garden St. and from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Hoboken Boys & Girls Club, which is located at 123 Jefferson St. "I urge every parent to consider getting their child vaccinated," Mayor Ravi Bhalla said in a statement. "This will not only help limit the spread of the virus but also increase the possibility that your child's education continues uninterrupted and in person." The city announced Monday that 86 percent of city residents over the age of 12 have received at least one dose of the vaccines while 79 percent are fully vaccinated. The new numbers were released at a time when 36 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported by health officials since last week. Six of those cases involved children between the ages of less than year to 11 years old. The biggest number of new cases (14) was seen in residents between the ages of 30-39. Less than 1 percent of residents (44,955) have tested positive for COVID-19 across New Jersey despite being fully vaccinated. Of those residents, 1,002 have been hospitalized with COVID-19 and 258 have died from COVID-19-related complications. The city announced that no Hoboken residents have been hospitalized with COVID-19 for a fifth straight week. This comes just a month after a number of COVID-19 patients required hospital stays. Since the start of the pandemic, Hoboken has seen 5,988 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 56 deaths.
