On Saturday, November 6, Patch ran a Sacramento Daily that contained a story about a Sacramento police officer facing drugs charges. We are remiss to have linked to FOX40 (a larger news publication) rather than to Ethan Biando's story (which was posted a full day earlier than FOX40). Patch is dedicated to local journalism and wants provide our readers with the best hyper-local content available. After reading Ethan's story, check out the rest of "The Sacramento Update"! Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: If you were a little annoyed by all of the wind and rain Monday night (maybe that's just me) you might be happy to know that the same storm dumped more than a half-foot of snow on higher elevations in the Sierra. The National Weather Service reported 9 inches of snow overnight at the top of the Mammoth Mountain ski resort south of Yosemite National Park. Seven inches fell on Tahoe's northwest shore at the Palisades Tahoe resort and 4 inches at Mt. Rose near Reno. (ABC10) Foster Farms is donating 8,000 pounds of turkey to the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services that will feed people and families in the community who may otherwise not be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal. The amount of donated turkey is enough for 10,000 servings this Thanksgiving and is expected to make a major difference during the holiday. (FOX40) And if you'd like to help out, the 2021 KCRA Turkey Drive takes place on Friday, November 12th. You can drop off your turkey to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services main facility in Oak Park at 3333 Third Ave. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (KCRA3)The City of Sacramento says 156 daycare providers closed during the pandemic. Daycare providers were able to stay open as essential businesses during the pandemic, but many lost customers as parents began working from home. "To survive that, if that's your livelihood, was very hard to do 18 months in and not have anyone paying the bill," said Denise Lee, Deputy Director for the Sacramento Employment & Training Agency. As more workplaces return to normal, many child care providers are concerned slots will fill up so quickly they won't be able to keep up. City leaders in Sacramento have pledged to prepare for the rush and daycare shortage by ear-marking $1.5 million in COVID-19 relief money. (CBS Sacramento)One Elk Grove homeowner got an unexpected guest - a car made itself at home in the living room! The driver crashed through the garage and came to rest inside the family home. Thankfully, nobody was injured. (CBS Sacramento)The first California State Fair marijuana competition is now open for submissions. Participants in the first state-sanctioned cannabis competition will be competing for more than 80 awards: bronze, silver, gold and double gold as well as Golden Bear trophies for the "Best of California" in each category.
