ASBURY PARK, NJ - The cause of death of a 24-year-old who was fatally shot at an Asbury Park intersection has been ruled a homicide and remains under investigation, authorities said.
24-year-old Dymir Leonard was found at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Bangs Avenue on Nov. 2 by an off-duty Asbury Park Police Department lieutenant driving his personal vehicle shortly after 9:45 p.m., Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey said Tuesday.
Leonard informed the officer that he had been shot, and Leonard was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He was pronounced dead shortly before 4:15 a.m. the next morning.
An autopsy later found the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest, with the manner of death ruled a homicide. An investigation involving the Prosecutor's Office's Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department is underway.
