NORTHBROOK, IL — The North Suburban YMCA recently ran its annual "Treats for Troops" social responsibility initiative, collecting over 500 pounds of leftover Halloween candy for troops at the Great Lakes Naval Base. The candy drive was organized by members of the NSYMCA's Social Responsibility committee who distributed the candy to the base on Nov. 8. "This is always an exciting opportunity to support the troops and their families," said Kim Nyren,NSYMCA Director of Community Investment. "Although this gesture may seem small, it is a wonderful way to remind our service personnel, as well as veterans of all eras, that we are all thankful for the services and sacrifices they have provided for our country and our families." This marked the sixth year delivering candy to the troops with plans to make it a long-standing tradition. The North Suburban YMCA services Northbrook and 14 surrounding communities withprograms and tools that help its residents become healthier, more connected, and confident, ensuring that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background, has the opportunity to learn.
