PHILADELPHIA — Firefighters have placed a massive fire at a Southwest Philadelphia junkyard after a few hours of battling flames, but crews are still trying to extinguish hotspots.
According to the Philadelphia Fire Department, the fire broke out at 61st Street and Lindbergh Boulevard.
The fire department said the blaze was under control by about 5:30 p.m. after starting at about 3 p.m.
NBC10 reports the fire ignited at a junkyard.
About 100 firefighters were on scene battling the blaze.
The fire sent plumes of smoke hundreds of feet into the air, which blew west across Center City and were visible from parts of South Jersey.
There are no reports of injuries, according to Action News.
