Description
NAPERVILLE, IL — A 15- and 16-year-old boy from Naperville have been charged with disorderly conduct in connection with a threat that was made against Naperville Central High School on Oct. 19.
No further information about the Oct. 19 threat was available Tuesday, as the boys are being processed through DuPage County's juvenile court system.
"As evidenced by this outcome, our department will fully investigate and pursue charges against anyone who makes a threat to the safety of our school communities," Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said in a news release Tuesday.
Arres added, "Threats of school violence, whether written, spoken or posted on social media, are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Parents, please talk to your children about the seriousness and potential consequences of such statements because we will continue to take them seriously and take necessary action to ensure the safety of our schools."
Naperville and Aurora police penned an open letter to parents in late October urging them to talk to their children about the seriousness of making threats against schools. The letter came after a possible bomb threat closed Naperville North High School for a day in September. Naperville North was evacuated Oct.15 following another threat.
In the wake of the threats, Naperville School District 203 imposed new restrictions "in response to an ongoing Naperville Police Department investigation in our community."
In October, a teen from New York was charged in connection with the Oct. 15 threat against Naperville North.
