Description
LA GRANGE, IL — A La Grange Park resident was an apparent victim of an attempted ruse burglary Monday evening, police said.
Shortly after 5 p.m., a man showed up at a door in the 600 block of East 31st Street, telling the resident he was there to check her water pressure because of work being done in the area, La Grange Park police said. The resident was suspicious of the man's intentions and did not let him in, police said. The man was last seen headed west from the house.
A ruse burglary happens when one person distracts the homeowner while another enters the house and commits theft. Checking water pressure is among the ruses.
La Grange Park police reminded residents never to allow any strangers inside their house, regardless of the reasons. If someone does show up, dial 911 or call the police department's non-emergency number at 708-352-2151.
Anyone with information about Monday's incident is asked to call 708-352-7711, ext. 207.
